The Alcohol Intermediary Method of Making Salves Can Be Great Fun

Updated: Mar 19, 2023

Making salves can be great fun. There are a number of ways to go about it. I decided to go with the "alcohol intermediary" method during the month of February. With this method, you wind up with a pretty shelf stable, rather quick, lovely oil. You'll need dried herbs of your choice, some good grain alcohol like a bottle of Everclear, a blender, good quality oil, and a fine muslin or linen cloth.

In a nutshell, I ran some dried rose petals through my vitamix blender for about 5 to 10 seconds. Then I steeped them in a bit of Everclear alcohol for over a day, then poured in some extra virgin alcohol.

Finally, I blended all the ingredients together for about 5 minutes in my blender. And viola! Here came my herbal infused oil, though it had to be meshed...The next step was to strain the herbal goodiness through a fine cloth. I squeezed the cloth again and again with my bare hands....careful not to waste any of it. The excess I just rubbed into my hands and arm...just heavenly

I urge you to try this method out, and play!
